Video Poker is a favored game that can be bet on in casinos all over the globe, or in your house on your computer, using a net connection. The game rules are absolutely simple and consist of the player attempting to achieve the best combination of cards achievable in order to win cash. In this respect it is very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the line of contact with other players. Of course, methods used in a physical game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker starts when the bettor inserts credits (whether it is tokens, tickets or money) into the machine and pushes the play button. A 5 card hand will be "given out" on the video screen.
The Electronic Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and players will need to now decide which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.
After the gambler has selected which cards she would like to retain, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards will be dealt if desired. The round is now completed, with the Video Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands shown on the payment schedule.
Typically, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payout schedule can change from machine to machine, so that experienced enthusiasts are able to select the most profitable machine every instance.
After the first round has finished, the player can either decide to stay on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that might have been won. Additionally, some versions of the game allow the player a chance to increase their winnings, in which situation another round is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
