Video Poker is a popular game that usually will be bet on in casinos throughout the world, or in your house on your personal computer, through an Internet connection. The game rules are very simple and consist of the player trying to get the highest combination of cards possible in order to come away with cash. On this account it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the line of contact with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.
The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (whether it’s tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the play button. A hand of five cards will be "given out" on the screen.
The Video Poker game also has hold buttons, and players should now choose which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it’s all or none.
After the gambler has decided on which cards he would like to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards will be needed they will be handed out. The game is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the payout schedule.
Generally, the lowest winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money growing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can change from machine to machine, so that skillful players are agile enough to choose the most money-making machine each instance.
After the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that has been won. Further, a few versions of the game give the enthusiast an opportunity to double their profits, in which instance a further game is played. There are also differences between individual machines, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other differing elements to enhance playability.
